Background: Data related to COVID-19 are increasing daily; the data analysis of the COVID-19 registry can provide critical information to policymakers and researchers for planning. The poor user interface design of these systems leads to problems in interacting with them. The present study aimed to evaluate the usability of two national systems to record daily data related to COVID-19 patients throughout hospitals in Iran called the "Medical Care Monitoring Center" (MCMC) and the "Electronic System for Syndromic Surveillance of Infectious Diseases" (ISSS). Methods: The interface of the aforementioned systems was assessed using a heuristic evaluation (HE) method in this descriptive, cross-sectional study. Using Nielsen’s 10 usability principles, three trained evaluators identified problems and determined each system’s severity rates independently. Results: This evaluation identified 164 usability problems, including 59 issues in the "ISSS" system and 105 violations in the "MCMC" system. The highest number of ISSS system problems was related to "Consistency and standard" and "Flexibility and efficiency of use". The average severity of problems in this system varied from 2 concerning "Consistency and standards", "Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors", and "Help and documentation" to 3.6 concerning "Visibility of system status". The highest number of MCMC system problems was associated with "Help and documentation" and "Consistency and standards". The average severity of problems in this system varied from 2 to 3.28 regarding "Help and documentation" and "Recognition rather than recall", respectively. Conclusion: Errors may be decreased, data quality can be raised, and interactions can be enhanced by taking into account standards and guidelines for user interface design, such as the HE utilized in this work.

This paper presents a comprehensive assessment of the usability in health referral queue systems through the lens of a public health management problem. To tackle the challenges encountered in Ibia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, a pioneering solution named the “Fila de Encaminhamento de Especialidades Médicas de Ibiá” (FEEMI) was devised, translating to the “Referral Queue for Medical Specialties in Ibiá” in English. The study involved the modeling of the existing manual health management process using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). A comparative analysis between the manual and automated processes revealed a significant reduction in manual tasks, from all 16 to merely 5, including crucial aspects such as medical exams and patient treatment. The FEEMI system successfully automated 10 tasks, streamlining health processes and enhancing overall efficiency. The system underwent rigorous testing, including unit tests and usability assessments based on Nielsen heuristics. The results indicated the robust functionality of the FEEMI system, ensuring error-free execution of critical functionalities and showcasing its resilience in handling potential issues. For patients, the FEEMI system introduces a new paradigm, offering improved quality of life and heightened security in health management processes.

Advancement in technology bestowed people with numerous invaluable gadgets and devices. Mobile phone is one of the most distinguished products of modern technology. The researchers, software engineers and scientists have joint venture to explore the possibility of mobile phone technology. Their toiling efforts are being consumed in broadening the application and usability of mobile phone. Many applications have been programmed to assist the process of learning for the convenience of teachers and learners. In this research, we aim at evaluating the usability of Online Digital Libraries of different Pakistani Universities. Indeed, there are different ways to evaluate the usability of online library applications, such as interviews, card sort and Shneiderman’s Eight Golden Rules, and Heuristics Nielson 10 golden rules etc. To evaluate and enhance the usability of mobile app, we used Nielson 10 golden rules. These set of rules and guidelines provide right direction and allow us to identify major usability issues. We have found the main usability issues in the mobile App libraries; if they are fixed, they can become more effective for the users to search their required materials.
