Corrosion Behavior of Inconel 625 Coating Produced by Laser Cladding

Abstract: Anti-corrosion properties of Inconel 625 (In) laser cladding coatings onto the (S235JR) steel (S) were investigated. The coatings were produced with the use of wire (WIn/S) or powder (PIn/S). The mechanical properties of the Inconel 625 coatings were characterized by microhardness measurements. The PIn/S shows the highest hardness. The surface and microstructure of the specimens were observed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The surface analysis of the laser cladding coatings by energy-dispersive spect… Show more

“…Nickel-based superalloys are widely used as coating materials due to their high corrosion resistance in aggressive environments as well as because of their fatigue strength, high-temperature toughness and ductility [ 3 , 4 ]. The positive influence of Inconel 625 coatings on the corrosion resistance of various grades of low-alloy and stainless steels was reported in the publication [ 5 ].…”

“…In our previous studies [26,27], we successfully laser cladded NiCr(Ti)-based coatings onto low carbon steel plates and electrochemically tested them in a very acidic PEMFC environment (aggressive conditions). The NiCr-based superalloy was selected as the base material due to its good corrosion resistance [28], while titanium was added as a reinforcing material into the composition (up to 10 wt% Ti addition). From the literature and applications, strong acidic solutions used as an electrolyte have a great influence on the corrosion of metallic BPs.…”
