Corrosion Inhibition Study of Brass in Simulated Cooling Water by Triazole Derivatives, Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide and Their Mixture

Abstract: The effect of triazole (TR), 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (ATA) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) on the inhibition of brass corrosion in simulated cooling water system has been studied using electrochemical measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The potentiodynamic polarization study reveals that these inhibitors inhibit both cathodic and anodic reactions, indicating a mixed-type control of inhibition and their inhibition depend on the nitro… Show more

“…This can be explained by the decrease in surface heterogeneity as a result of the CBIPM molecules adsorption on the mild steel surface. The same result was found by other authors, and they explained by the molecule adsorption of inhibitors via N and S atoms in the inhibitor molecules 31,32 . In the same way, the relaxation time constant (τ dl ) values increase with inhibitor concentration as well and the time of adsorption process becomes therefore much higher which means a slow adsorption process 33 .…”

“…8. This model was used in our previous works to describe the behavior of copper and brass in cooling water solution, with or without inhibitors (Elhousni et al 2016;El Bakri et al 2016;Rochdi et al 2014). In this model, R s is the solution resistance, R ct is the charge transfer resistance, Q dl corresponds to the capacitance of the double layer, and the R ad and the element Q ad correspond to the film formation of corrosion and scale products.…”
