Corrosion monitoring at the interface using sensors and advanced sensing materials: methods, challenges and opportunities

Abstract: Detecting and monitoring of corrosion is one of the major challenges in insulated metallic structures or structures with one or more than one interface. This review paper aims to consolidate scattered literature on laboratory system-based corrosion measurement at the interface region. There are range of sensor-based detection and monitoring methods (active, passive) for corrosion rate analysis, including those which measures a surrogate, i.e. quantifying moisture, temperature, pH and qualify other changes or d… Show more

“…This could be correlated with the observed trend in this work. We note that almost all of reported studies on the effects of annealing on ITO films were conducted at temperatures below 600°C [53]. Further, these works focus on the optical properties of ITO films, in the visible region (400-700nm).…”

“…In particular, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical noise (EN) have been reported as some of the most promising in situ electrochemical methods with the potential to be extended to other industrial sectors and their development was rapid in recent years with the advancements in instrumentation and signal processing [21]. One advantage of EN is its application in long-term or early-stage corrosion process monitoring because it instantly detects corrosion rate and corrosion forms [22].…”
