Corrosion of API X80 Steel Immersed in Seawater: Application of Electrochemical Noise Technique

Abstract: In this work the corrosion kinetics of X80 steel immersed in synthetic seawater was analyzed using the electrochemical noise technique in static condition at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. An arrangement of three electrodes was used in an electrochemical cell, with two nominally identical working electrodes (X80 steel) and a saturated calomel electrode (SCE) as reference one. The results obtained were used to calculate the localization index (LI), which indicated that the corrosion process has a lo… Show more

“…However, there exists a special behavior at 3000 rpm where there isn't increased in the current density, in fact, the opposite behaviour happened, the i lim decreased. The behavior observed in the i lim at 3000 rpm is reported in research works carried out by Galván-Martínez (17) and Lopez-Celvera (18), where the decrease in the i lim is also observed.…”

“…This reduces the H 2 S cytotoxicity in the broth, allowing better planktonic and sessile SRB growth, and thus leading to more severe MIC ( Jia et al, 2019a ). X80 carbon steel is widely used in many industries because of its low cost and ease of fabrication ( López-Celvera et al, 2018 ; Zhang et al, 2019 ; Pereira et al, 2021 ; Tian and Pan, 2021 ). However, X80 steel pipelines may suffer from both MIC and mechanical property degradation caused by MIC ( Alamri, 2020 ; Liu et al, 2022 ; Fu et al, 2022 ; Wasim and Djukic, 2022 ).…”
