Corrosion resistance of graphene/waterborne epoxy composite coatings in CO 2 -satarated NaCl solution

Abstract: This study investigated the corrosion resistance of graphene/waterborne epoxy composite coatings in CO 2 -satarated NaCl solution. The coatings were prepared by dispersing graphene in waterborne epoxy with the addition of carboxymethylcellulose sodium. The structure and composition of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared and Raman spectroscopies. The corrosion resistance of the composite coatings wa… Show more

“…It cannot be eliminated completely. But it can be reduced by the addition of inhibitors [4][5][6][7] (organic and inorganic) to the corrosive media, alloying [8][9] , and surface coatings [10][11][12] . Surface coatings may be polymer coatings, metallic coatings , or non-metallic coatings.…”

“…[17][18][19][20][21][22] Xu et al tested the corrosion resistance of graphene/ carboxymethylcellulose sodium/waterborne epoxy composite coating in CO 2 -saturated NaCl solution. [7] However, corrosive particles entered into coating easily and resulted in premature failure, due to the embrittlement of cured epoxy resin. By comparison, PVB has good flexibility, low glass transition temperature, high tensile strength and impact strength because of its long-branched chain.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5] Therefore, it is imperative for metal substrate to utilize technology, which can reduce the impact of corrosion and prolong the service life of metals in all kinds of environment. Most research on metal anti-corrosion has been carried out in three directions: coating, [3,6,7] metal surface modification and electrochemical protection. [1,8,[9][10][11] Surface modification and electrochemical protection existed the shortage of polluting the environment and wasting energy among all the means.…”

“…In the industrial market, waterborne epoxy coatings have gradually replaced the traditional solvent-based epoxy coatings. However, their performance is far inferior to that of solvent-based coatings (Ai et al , 2019; Xu et al , 2020), such as brittleness, poor heat and corrosion resistance (Zuo et al , 2018). It is remarkable that the waterborne epoxy curing agent plays an essential role in the properties of the cured epoxy system (Baig and Samad, 2021; Huang et al , 2021; Ren et al , 2010).…”
