Cortical Laminar Necrosis as a Presenting Manifestation of Migraine in an Apparently Normal Patient: A Rare Case Report

Abstract: We present a 27-year-old female, a known case of classical migraine headache, who had a severe episode of migraine with visual aura attack which continued late into night. The next morning, she had persistent headache and developed abrupt onset of dysarthria and right hemiparesthesias. She attributed symptoms to her long-lasting headache problem and hence did not seek medical help for the next 2 weeks. The symptoms persisted despite her headache subsiding over the next 36 hours. Her condition worsened 2 weeks … Show more

“…In the present article, authors report a case of cortical laminar necrosis (CLN) as the presenting neuroimaging sign of cerebral infarct in a 27-year-old woman with a history of migraine. 1 This case report provides useful insights and reflections about major topics and challenges in the landscape of acute vascular neurology.…”

“…With interest, we read the article by Sharma et al about a patient with a cortical stroke manifesting as dysarthria, hemihypesthesia, and hemiparesis, shortly after onset of a migraine attack with visual aura. 1 The patient also experienced homolateral facial cloni for <1 minute once. 1 The ischemic lesion ended up as laminar cortical necrosis (LCN).…”
