“…For 3-mm needlescope procedures reported previously, the mean patient age, operation time, postoperative hospital stay, rates of conversion to conventional laparoscopic and open procedures, and morbidity rate were 50.8 years, 65.4 min, 1.6 days, 7.8 and 1.5%, and 5.7%, respectively [18,29,[32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39]. The corresponding figures for the use of 2-mm or 3-mm instruments plus 5-mm ones were 50.1 years, 61.5 min, 3.1 days, 6.6 and 0%, and 1.3%, respectively [37][38][39][40][41][42][43]. The duration of surgery depended on the size of the instruments employed.…”

“…We are continuing the evaluation of the BJ needle in a multi-center trial. Table 3 shows the operative results with 2-or 3-mm instruments plus 5-mm instruments in 7 institutions [12,16,[32][33][34][35][36]. The mean age was 50.1 years.…”

“…Several studies comparing MLC and conventional LC have documented benefits of MLC as a less invasive procedure that produces better cosmetic outcomes [2,16]. However, many of the studies are based on a limited patient sample [3,4,9,18], with the result that the findings are less reliable for inferring population statistics of mortality, morbidity, total operation time, conversion rate and hospital stay. The purpose of this study was to review retrospective the results of 1,011 MLCs performed at one single institution in Taiwan.…”
