Cosmic R-string, R-tube and vacuum instability

Abstract: We show that a cosmic string associated with spontaneous U(1) R symmetry breaking gives a constraint for supersymmetric model building. In some models, the string can be viewed as a tube-like domain wall with a winding number interpolating a false vacuum and a true vacuum. Such string causes inhomogeneous decay of the false vacuum to the true vacuum via rapid expansion of the radius of the tube and hence its formation would be inconsistent with the present Universe. However, we demonstrate that there exist met… Show more

“…The transition proceeds via a domain wall D5-brane wrapping over the A 1 , A 2 and C cycles at the same point of our spacetime. The decay rate is calculated by using the Euclidean version of the Dirac bubble is given by 8) while X I (I = 4, 5, 6) are filling the A 1 , A 2 and C cycles. During the phase transition, the baryon forms a bound state with the domain wall D5-brane and induces the magnetic flux on the wall.…”

“…The evolution of the universe (or multiverse) may be affected by their existence in that the catalysts accelerate transitions between vacua. In fact, it has been discussed in field theories that a semi-classical vacuum decay occurs from monopoles or cosmic strings [1][2][3][4] and applied to phenomenological studies of metastable vacua [5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. Moreover, recent developments of string theory compactifications suggest the existence of the landscape of vacua [12][13][14][15].…”

“…Then, in [23][24][25][26][27][28][29], applications to phenomenological model building were discussed in the context of field theories. Our first paper [10] can be regarded as the first realization of this idea in string theories.…”

“…1 A cosmic string associated with R-symmetry has been studied in [18][19][20][21][22]. Rich physical aspects such as instability of metastable vacua induced by the string and cosmological constraints coming from R-axion radiated by the string have been discussed.…”
