Cosmology of mass-varying neutrinos driven by quintessence: Theory and observations

Abstract: The effects of mass-varying neutrinos on cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies and large scale structures (LSS) are studied. In these models, dark energy and neutrinos are coupled such that the neutrino masses are functions of the scalar field playing the role of dark energy. We begin by describing the cosmological background evolution of such a system. It is pointed out that, similar to models with a dark matter/dark energy interaction, the apparent equation of state measured with SNIa can be smaller… Show more

“…The leptogenesis [9,10], the cosmo MSW effect of neutrinos [11] and the solar neutrino [12,13] have been studied in the context of this scenario. Cosmological discussions of the scenario are also presented [14,15,16,17,18,19].…”

“…Our work implies that CMB anisotropies as well as large scale structures will be able to constrain parameters of the theory tightly. In future we will investigate other potentials and couplings, elaborate on the degeneracies between the parameters and will use current data to constrain such models [10].…”

“…In order to study the evolution of cosmological perturbations, we have extended the Boltzmann treatment of [12] to include the coupling between neutrinos and dark energy [10] (see e.g. [13] for detailed discussions on the physics of CMB anisotropies).…”
