Cost evaluation of providing evidence‐based dietetic services for weight management in adults: In‐person versuseHealth delivery

Abstract: Although it is initially more expensive to establish an eHealth service mode, the overall reoccurring costs per patient for delivery of best-practice weight management were lower compared to the in-person mode. This theoretical cost evaluation establishes preliminary evidence to support alternative obesity management service models using eHealth technologies. Further research is required to determine the feasibility, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of these models within dietetic practice.

“…In addition to childcare, the need to travel to health services has been reported previously as a barrier to participation for postpartum women [ 30 ]. Healthcare delivered remotely via video consultations offers an alternative to in-person care, potentially enabling women to overcome these barriers [ 31 ]. This can be seen in the current study, in which women viewed the video consultations favourably, given the ability to be at home with their child, without the need arrange their children to attend with them or travel to a physical location.…”

“…These infographic reports can show complex data digitally and visually and have been promoted as a means to easily disseminate a community program in an understandable manner (17). Additionally, digital formats are more costeffective than traditional measures, such as printed copies of dissemination, which is beneficial to communities with limited resources (17,21,22). The eB4CAST reports are tailored for individual communities and versatile for distribution from eB4CAST researchers directly to participants, stakeholders, and future potential leaders of a program's dissemination.…”

A way forwards may be in the field of eHealth delivery, as described by Rollo et al . as a cost‐effective means to deliver weight management in older adults.…”

A way forwards may be in the field of eHealth delivery, as described by Rollo et al 27 as a cost-effective means to deliver weight management in older adults. This may include telephone health service delivery, described in the study by Miller et al 28 to address hyperlipidaemia and cardiovascular health, or by other means such as computers, smart phone technology and iPads.…”
