Coupled Bionic Design Based on Primnoa Mouthpart to Improve the Performance of a Straw Returning Machine

Abstract: The high energy consumption and low crushing length qualification rate of traditional straw returning machines in the main maize-growing regions of northeast China make it difficult to promote straw returning operations in the region. The primnoa locust mouthpart is extremely efficient in cutting maize rootstocks. In this paper, it was found that there are significant differences between the primnoa locust mouthpart and the conventional machine, these exist mainly in the cutting edge structure and cutting moti… Show more

“…By changing the cutting approach of the stubble return operation from variable to fixed, this method effectively limits stubble displacement and reduces cutting resistance. Consequently, the total cutting energy consumption of the machine is reduced by 9.4–11.7%, while the qualification rate of the crushed length is improved by 10.4–14.7% [ 87 ]. Similarly, Zhu et al [ 88 ] designed a disk stubble cutter modeled after the mouthparts of longhorn beetles.…”

“…In order to efficiently carry out the DEM virtual simulation test, a single spherical particle is selected as the virtual soil particle model [27]. In order to render the virtual soil as close as possible to actual soil conditions in the field, the EDEM virtual soil parameters were set according to physical and mechanical property parameters, contact model parameters and material contact parameters of the soil measured in the previous stage, and a virtual soil model was constructed.…”

“…Conservation tillage has generated certain advantages in the Northeast region, but it continues to face numerous challenges [20]. The stubble-cutting devices of working machines in Northeast China still have problems with high cutting resistance and torque, as well as high energy consumption, making it difficult to ensure the smooth application of conservation tillage [18,21]. There is an urgent need to devise new stubble-cutting devices according to the operating environment in the Northeast region to meet operating needs.…”
