Coupling Reactions of Carbon Dioxide with Epoxides Catalyzed by Vanadium Aminophenolate Complexes

Abstract: A series of vanadium compounds supported by tetradentate aminobis(phenolate) ligands were screened for catalytic reactivity in the reaction of propylene oxide (PO) with CO : [VO(OMe)(O NO )], [VO(OMe)(ON O )], [VO(OMe)(O NN )], and [VO(OMe)(O NO )]. They showed similar reactivities, but reaction rates were higher for [VO(OMe)(ON O )], which was studied in more detail. Turnover frequencies for conversion of PO over 500 h were observed. Activation energies were determined experimentally through in situ IR spectr… Show more

“…• under the conditions described in Table 1 entry 4, 1,3-dioxan-2-one was recovered in 67% yield at 80 °C, and 1.0 MPa CO2 pressure [47]; • with the POSS-Imi catalyst (0.067 mol%, Table 1, entry 70) but the conversion is very low (16%) albeit selectivity was almost quantitative [116].…”

“…The same catalyst in combination with TBAB the respective activation energy calculated was 23 KJ/mol which showed a significant reduction. Various catalytic systems reported in the literature are possessing activation energy in the range 35–70 KJ/mol . The highest activation energy 98.4 KJ/mol was reported for the iron amino‐bis (phenolate) complex catalyst, for the conversion of propylene oxide in combination with TBAB .…”
