“…In conclusion, the HTL‐based system showed superior economic and environmental performance. Rios‐Del Toro et al 43 achieves the complete conversion of TB to energy and products by coupling biochemical and thermochemical biorefinery platforms. By applying a central composite design and using two hydrolysates as substrates.…”

“…The tequila industry, one of the most important and world renowned Mexican agro-industries, generated more than 800,000 tons of Agave tequilana bagasse (ATB) in 2021 according to data from the Tequila Regulatory Council and estimations of the agave plant to bagasse ratio generation (∼40%). , With sustained growth over the past decade, this industry has doubled the generation of this lignocellulosic residue, raising concerns about its final disposal . Although some valorization methods have been tried by some companies, such as composting and goods manufacturing, low success has been achieved, and most of the industries are still facing challenges for ATB disposal due to the high generation volumes. , A common disposal practice is to dump it in agave fields causing environmental damage, such as pollution by leachates, fugitive methane emissions, odor generation, air quality impacts, and habitat for pests, among others . Thus, integral ATB valorization approaches should be developed to reduce the environmental impact and provide full bioconversion technologies to high value-added products.…”
