Cover Picture

Abstract: The cover picture shows a packing fragment of the host ± guest compound formed between a nickel complex host and a chloroform guest. The complex belongs to a newly emerging class of host materials, modified metal dibenzoylmethanates. The latest findings on their host ± guest chemistry are presented in more detail by D. V. Soldatov and J. A. Ripmeester on p. 2979 ff.

“…A large variety of compounds of composition M(py) 4 X 2 •2py have been previously investigated with respect to their clathrate nature, the ability to maintain a structural similarity upon varying the M(py) 4 X 2 host molecules, and the ability to introduce guest molecules other than pyridine. [7][8][9][10][11][12][13] Our particular interest in this class of compounds, however, pertains to the nickel formate derivative, Ni(py) 4 It is also pertinent to point out that the formate ligand adopts a proximal conformation in which the uncoordinated oxygen resides with a cis-like disposition relative to the metal, rather than a distal conformation in which the uncoordinated oxygen atom and metal adopt a trans-like disposition (Figure 3). 5) and (ii) the R values are significantly higher (Table 3).…”

“…Thiomorpholine was selected as a ditopic ligand with one N-and one S-donor atom. This ligand was expected to bind to the metal ion through the N atom and provide a means of achieving the organization of complex molecules in the solid state that is different from that in other bis(1,3-diphenylpropane-1,3-dionato)cobalt(II) complexes, but without significantly disturbing the overall geometry of the 'hub' unit (Aakerö y et al, 2004; Soldatov & Ripmeester, 2001).…”

“…0.25 nm were obtained by XRD measurements. [20][21][22] To validate this, we resized the Ru(II) van der Waals bond length parameter to the Ru-N bpy distance of ca. 0.21 nm, 15 which we had fit the Ru(II) van der Waals bond length parameter in the simulation above to.…”
