The purpose of this study is to investigate whether Google Scholar (GS) can substitute Web of Science (WoS) for those who don't have access to the subscription-based indexing service and if users feel GS is useful for scholarly information. To achieve the research purpose, the study evaluates both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the two databases. The major results through statistical analysis show that GS indexes much more records and citations for LIS journals than WoS(p < .01), but users' feedback about GS is not better than those about WoS. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether GS can substitute WoS for those who don't have access to the subscription-based indexing service and if users feel GS is useful for scholarly information.To achieve the research purpose, the study will evaluate both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the two databases with the following research questions. RQ 1. Comparison of the quantitative measuresbetween WoS and GS.

Terms of use: Documents in AbstractThis paper by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and statistical inference evaluates the citation performance of 229 economic journals. The paper categorizes the journals into four main categories (A to D) based on their efficiency levels. The results are then compared to the 27 "core economic journals" as introduced by Dimond (1989). The results reveal that after more than twenty years Diamonds' list of "core economic journals" is still valid. Finally, for the first time the paper uses data from four well-known databases (SSCI, Scopus, RePEc, Econlit) and two quality ranking reports (Kiel Institute internals ranking and ABS quality ranking report) in a DEA setting and in order to derive the ranking of 229 economic journals.

Producción de artículos en la base de datos Web of Science y Scopus sobre educación física: estudio comparativo entre España y Brasil

ResumenExiste un creciente interés y necesidad en la evaluación de la producción científica. Entre las mediciones más importantes, está el número de artículos, el factor de impacto de la revista en que se publica y el índice de h. El objetivo analizar la producción de los profesores de las áreas de Educación Física de España y Brasil por medio de artículos en revistas en la base de datos Web of Science y Scopus. El método es un estudio descriptivo, comparativo y correlacional de análisis de documentos. La muestra la forman 373 profesores, de los cuales 108 corresponden a Brasil y 265 a España. Los resultados indican que los profesores en España tienen en Web of Science un Índice h 2.6 y 7.4 artículos por investigador y en Scopus una h 3.1 y 9.5 artículos.
