Abstract:Prolidase, a cytosolic exopeptidase, and a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family, is encoded by the PEPD gene in humans. Since Prolidase is the only enzyme which can cleave dipeptides containing C‐terminal proline, or hydroxyproline, it plays an essential role in protein metabolism, collagen turnover, and matrix remodeling. Prolidase is essential in several physiological and pathological processes such as wound healing, inflammation, angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and carcinogenesis. Surprisin… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
