Creatine kinase monitoring in sport medicine

Abstract: CK values show great variability among individuals. Some athletes are low responders to physical training, with chronically low CK serum levels. Some athletes are high responders, with higher values of enzyme: the relationship among level of training, muscle size, fibre type and CK release after exercise should be investigated further. In addition, more details about hyperCKemia could come from the evaluation of the kinetics of CK after stress in healthy athletes with high levels of CK due to exercise, compari… Show more

“…In fact, one of the causes of local fatigue is the accumulation of lactic acid in active organs and the concentration of hydrogen ion in the blood [14]. Considering the role of enzymes and the effect of physical activity and the various consumables on them, the use of enzyme activity changes is very important in evaluation and diagnosis of diseases and tissue damage [15,16]. CK enzyme is one of the most well-known and most reliable clinical indicators, which is believed to increase the amount of the enzyme in the blood as damage to the heart-muscle cells in the body [16,17].In fact, unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids that are essential for the health of the body cannot be synthesized by body; therefore, they should be obtained through food or dietary supplements, the best source of which is fish, which contains more levels and groups of fatty acids [18].…”

“…Usually, this enzyme is a very strong indicator for evaluating muscle damage. Many researchers have stated that taking antioxidant supplements reduces oxidative stress and prevents muscle damage by invigorating the body's antioxidant defenses (40). During swimming and when the energy devices (including phosphagen, and aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis) are active, an increase in the concentrations of creatine kinase for producing ATP in training groups seems natural.…”

“…An elevation of serum CK level [CK serum ] is usually observed one to four days after physical activity [16][17][18][19] and is an indicator of the stress imposed on the skeletal muscle following exercise 13,20,21 . Recently, CK has also been used as a monitoring marker of training load [22][23][24] , especially in soccer 5,25 , since its measurement can be performed quickly and conveniently.…”
