Creation, integration, and analysis of disease networks towards a better disease understanding and drug repurposing

Abstract

In all publications Pub. I -Pub. III, the author of this thesis was the main responsible for the conceptualization, development, and performance of the analyses, as well as for the writing and publishing of the manuscripts. In papers Pub. II and Pub. III, the co-authors E.U.C. and M.D.U. contributed remarkably to the design and implementation of the final solution. Overall, the coauthors of the published works have greatly contributed to the theoretical discussion and review of the manuscripts, as well as in the technical improvement of the results.The three publications are reproduced in their entirety in the Publications section. They have been chosen as the pivotal elements of the current thesis, even though other publications included in the Appendix A.1 and Appendix A.2 are also of relevance and involved in some of the tasks aimed to be covered in it. A brief description is added at Appendix A.3 on how some of these publications are related to this thesis and their importance to the overall project.
