Creation of a Low-Cost Endoscopic Flavectomy Training Model

Abstract: Objective The objective of the study was the development of a low cost simulator of the endoscopic lumbar spine flavectomy technique for use as a teaching method in order to make endoscopic training more accessible. Methods The study was a descriptive research project conducted at the Orthopedic Skills Laboratory of the Health Sciences Department of the Federal University of Paraná. Easily accessible, low cost materials, such as a commercial-use mannequin, EVA plastic, PVC and copper tubing were used to dev… Show more

“…7 The simulator provides unlimited opportunities for training, but with a cost that can exceed 80 thousand dollars, making it unfeasible for several educational institutions. 4,8 Dry models can be easy to build, inexpensive, and arouse interest in trainees and demonstrate similar efficiency to virtual reality, [8][9][10][11][12][13] the model studied here was developed with this format and concept of using low-cost materials. The step-by-step material and assembly of the model has already been published, 14 and the present study proposes the validation of this model (►Fig.…”
