According to Jones and Grantz (1967) and Jones (1963), the Matanuska Formation sediments were derived from highlands to the north and deposited in a deep, subsiding, narrow trough. Their texture and mineralogy suggest deposition on a narrow shelf a few miles south of a shoreline to the north.…”
