Objective:The objective of the study was to determine the cutoff points (CP) of nine neonatal screening biomarkers performed at the Laboratory of the Center for Neonatal and Genetic Studies in Mexico City, comparing them with the CP recommended by the manufacturer of the reagents. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional research was carried out. The study included 2805 newborns aged 1-30 days, who had a drop of dried whole blood collected on filter paper, then quantified for their concentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone, thyroxine, phenylalanine, immunotrypsin, galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase, galactose, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, biotinidase, and 17-alpha hydroxyprogesterone, by immunofluorescence method (DELFIA, PerkinElmer LifeSciences time-resolved fluorometry). The cutoff point (excluding atypical values) was calculated with the data obtained for each test, and the mean and standard deviation were determined. Sensitivity and specificity were determined with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The determined CPs were compared with the CPs recommended by the manufacturer of the reagents. Results: Except for T4, it was shown that, when comparing the CP obtained, these were lower compared to the CPs recommended by the manufacturer. Conclusion: The CPs obtained in Mexican neonates differ from those recommended by the manufacturer. In addition, CPs are analytically acceptable, as they have high sensitivity and specificity. Consequently, these CPs can be used as a reference in clinical practice for the possible early detection of metabolic diseases in newborns.

El cine es una efectiva herramienta de enseñanza - aprendizaje que permite ilustrar desde diversos enfoques los procesos complejos de la enfermedad. En este artículo hacemos hincapié sobre estas herramientas educativas que nos brinda la película A dos metros de ti / Five feet apart, sobre la fibrosis quística. En la que se retratan los aspectos diarios que sobrellevan los pacientes dentro de un hospital desde su alimentación, tratamiento e infecciones. A la vez, la necesidad del contacto físico que tienen con las personas que conviven; ya que estos pacientes deben mantenerse alejados entre sí, a dos metros de distancia. Además, trata de las infecciones causadas por bacterias multirresistentes como Burkholderia cepacia y métodos alternativos como el proceso de trasplante pulmonar que permite prolongar la vida en paciente con fibrosis quística.

Sweat is a noninvasive biological fluid on the surface of human skin and has attracted increasing attention as a diagnostic specimen for disease and biomarker detection. Sweat metabolite quantification is possible due to progress in sweat analysis techniques; nevertheless, the role of sweat monitoring in energy metabolism, physiological or pathological state assessment, health status assessment, and the development and outcome of metabolism-related diseases remains unclear. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the literature on human sweat lactate concentration. The first, second, and third sections of this review present an introduction of sweat lactate, methods for the collection and storage of sweat lactate samples, and methods of detection and analysis of sweat lactate, respectively. The fourth section elaborates upon the current state of clinical application of sweat lactate monitoring and its prospects for health surveillance. The last section focuses on the challenges and future directions of this novel technology for detecting lactate in sweat.
