Criteria air pollutants from cement production in Nigeria

Abstract: This study aims at determining the impact of uncontrolled criteria air pollutants on air quality. The research estimates the emissions of criteria air pollutants from existing and proposed cement production facilities using the emission factor approach. The emissions from the existing plants for particulate matter (PM), sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ), oxides of nitrogen (NO x ), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), and lead ranged between 0.031 and 354,240 tons per annum; 9.07 and 31,953.6 tons per annum; 5.04 and 17,750 tons per … Show more

“…Uncontrolled annual emissions from existing cement factories were estimated to be 1,604, 201 tons, 1,495 ton, 78,651.31 tons, 4,218.32 tons and 1,294.5 for PM, CO, SO 2 , NOx and Pb, respectively. These are expected to increase with the addition of proposed cement factories ( Oki et al., 2019 ). On a general note, the availability of emission inventories of air pollutants from other manufacturing industries could provide holistic understanding of their contributions to the country's airshed; although, a World Bank report put their 2007 value as 1.5 MMtCO 2 , 1.4 SO 2 kt, 29.3 ktNO x, 0.8 ktBC and 0.9 ktOC per annum ( World Bank, 2014 ).…”
