Critical success factors for transforming pedagogy with mobile Web 2.0

Abstract: Mobile learning (mlearning) research has in general been characterised by short-term comparative pilot studies with little high-level critique or theory formation. Consequently, there is limited evidence in the literature of mlearning research that is longitudinal across multiple contexts, cooperative and participatory. In response, this paper reflects upon longitudinal (2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010)(2011) participatory action research and identifies six critical success factors for implementing mobile Web 2.0… Show more

“…Closer to home, ownership of multiple devices is affirmed by Research New Zealand (2014), who report 90 percent of respondents either own or have access to at least four mobile devices. Cochrane (2014) noted the focus of mobile Web 2.0 projects has moved from providing students with institutionally loaned wireless mobile devices to appropriating the affordances of student-owned devices. This study seeks to understand the level of ownership of mobile devices among students at a provincial polytechnic.…”

“…Messinger (2012) sees that the lack of practical frameworks in m-learning limits the widespread adoption of mobile learning. Other researchers listed some factors affecting the widespread adoption of mobile learning, such as lack of theoretical and pedagogical grounding and lack of teacher support and training (Cochrane, 2014;Peng, Su, Chou, & Tsai 2009). Looi, Sun, Seow, and Chia (2014) found limited research on the investigation of curricular based implementations of mobile learning and devices.…”
