Criticality of Schedule Constraints – Classification and Identification for Project Management

Abstract: In construction scheduling, constraints among activities are vital as they govern the schedule solution. Understanding their criticality is essential for better schedule management. This paper presents a systematic method to classify and identify the criticality of schedule constraints for the schedule management from the constraint perspective. In terms of criticality, schedule constraints can be grouped into four types: project-critical, activity-critical, sequencecritical and non-critical. Project-critical … Show more

“…A TMT with younger members is more suited to managing schedules. From the two core aspects of schedule management, namely, schedule establishment and dynamic adjustment (Nguyen and Chua, 2014), this study surmised that cause for this finding is that young TMT members are more inclined to work fast to achieve as much as possible (Shore et al, 2003;Francesco et al, 2018). They tend to establish more urgent project appraisal targets.…”

“…In the following decades, adoption continued to grow, and at present time, the utilization of specialized software systems to improve project, program, and portfolio management (PPPM) is extensive (Symons, 2009;Davis, 2012). These tools are used to plan and control the vital sequencing of activities and play a critical role in project management (Nguyen and Chua, 2014). PM software tools are used by a wide variety of diverse organizations and numerous industries.…”

“…Both the essential project management techniques, Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), were developed in 1960. These two techniques are mainly related to time control (Nguyen and Chua, 2014). For project planning and control, resources usage and allocation must be included.…”
