Information on the effects of local field management on earthworm communities is also available (e.g., Haukka 1988, Nuutinen 1992, Nuutinen et al 1998, Kukkonen et al 2006), but the regional patterns of species distribution and density as well as the influence of inherent soil properties have so far remained unexplored.
