<p>In recent years, female sexuality has been considered an important component of woman's health, that it may be related to various factors. The aim of this study was test a model of awareness the moment as a mediator of the relationship between sexual anxiety and genital self-image to sexual function. We collected data from 300 heterosexual women that completed the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), the Five Fact Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), the Multidimensional Sexual Self- Concept Questionnaire (MSSCQ), and the Female Genital Self- Image scale (FGSI). Structural equation modeling was used. The findings showed that there was a significant relationship between the genital self- image and the sexual function, and between the sexual anxiety and sexual function. Also, the genital self- image and sexual anxiety had relationship with the awareness the moment separately. Structural equation model revealed a significant relationship between the genital self- image with sexual function through the awareness the moment; and between the sexual anxiety and sexual function through the awareness the moment. Therefore, the better sexual function can occur by more positive genital self- image. Also, we found awareness the moment can mediate the relationship between sexual anxiety and sexual function. </p>

Cross-Cultural Adaptation of the Male Genital Self-Image Scale in Iranian Men

IntroductionCertain sexual health problems in men can be attributed to genital self-image. Therefore, a culturally adapted version of a Male Genital Self-Image Scale (MGSIS) could help health professionals understand this concept and its associated correlates.AimTo translate the original English version of the MGSIS into Persian and to assess the psychometric properties of this culturally adapted version (MGSIS-I) for use in Iranian men.MethodsIn total, 1,784 men were recruited for this cross-sectional study. Backward and forward translations of the MGSIS were used to produce the culturally adapted version. Reliability of the MGSIS-I was assessed using Cronbach α and intra-class correlation coefficients. Divergent and convergent validities were examined using Pearson correlation and known-group validity was assessed in subgroups of participants with different sociodemographic statuses. Factor validity of the scale was investigated using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.Main Outcome MeasuresDemographic information, the International Index of Erectile Function, the Body Appreciation Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the MGSIS.ResultsMean age of participants was 38.13 years (SD = 11.45) and all men were married. Cronbach α of the MGSIS-I was 0.89 and interclass correlation coefficients ranged from 0.70 to 0.94. Significant correlations were found between the MGSIS-I and the International Index of Erectile Function (P < .01), whereas correlation of the scale with non-similar scales was lower than with similar scale (confirming convergent and divergent validity). The scale could differentiate between subgroups in age, smoking status, and income (known-group validity). A single-factor solution that explained 70% variance of the scale was explored using exploratory factor analysis (confirming uni-dimensionality); confirmatory factor analysis indicated better fitness for the five-item version than the seven-item version of the MGSIS-I (root mean square error of approximation = 0.05, comparative fit index > 1.00 vs root mean square error of approximation = 0.10, comparative fit index > 0.97, respectively).ConclusionThe MGSIS-I is a useful instrument to assess genital self-image in Iranian men, a concept that has been associated with sexual function. Further investigation is needed to identify the applicability of the scale in other cultures or populations.

BackgroundGenital self‐image (GSI) is a major barrier to reproductive and sexual health for women. This practical randomized trial aims to evaluate the effect of psychosexual counseling based on a cognitive‐behavioral approach to promoting GSI for reproductive‐age married Iranian women.MethodsMarried women aged 15–49 years under the coverage of health centers will be invited to join the study. The study will be conducted using a multistage mixed method design in three phases. In the first phase, semi‐structured interviews with women and key informants will be conducted to understand better the GSI concept, the factors influencing it, and the interventions promoting it. Simultaneously, a literature review will be conducted by searching electronic databases to find the factors influencing GSI and the interventions to enhance it.In the second phase, the GSI‐related factors, sexual and reproductive health outcomes correlated with GSI, and intervention programs for promoting GSI in women will be extracted from the integration of qualitative study and literature review. Then, based on the expert panel's priority, a suitable program will be prepared.In the third phase, at first, a cross‐sectional study will be conducted to identify women with poor GSI and the factors relating to GSI, and then psychosexual counseling intervention will be performed. For the randomized controlled trial study, participants will be randomly allocated into two groups: (1) the intervention group and (2) the control group. Data will be collected using the Female Genital Self‐Image Scale and sexual and reproductive health outcomes correlated with GSI at baseline, immediate, and 2‐month follow‐up assessments. The impact of the intervention on the promotion of GSI will be evaluated.DiscussionThis study provides a counseling program for promoting GSI. If this interventional program is successful, it has practical potential to be generalized for Iranian Women with poor GSI.
