Abstract: This study indicates that in a country that provides health care services for all based on need regardless of personal income (Norway), the utilization of CAM practitioners is higher and less associated with use of other health care providers than a country with low government expenditure on health (the United States).

“…In line with this, we found that higher educated people more likely visited CAM providers. However, this contrasts findings of no such association in general populations in Norway [14, 33, 34], but conforms with most international studies [35]. It is believed that higher education increases the perception of mental problems and the willingness to seek care [28].…”

“…The implication is that a substantial number of students were seeing both conventional health care providers and Feldenkrais Teachers . This is consistent with other studies that reported health care consumers often combine conventional health care with CAM practices [1,29,39-41]. However, it is not always clear whether conventional health care providers are aware of their patients’ use of CAM practices.…”

Some CAM practitioners (e.g., naturopaths and acupuncturists) were more likely to be included in insurance plans and therefore had notable payments from such sources [26].…”

“…In Europe, the prevalence of the use of CAM among adults, including both products and therapies, has varied from 6-49% according to different studies with varying recall periods [1-6]. However, parents as a group, had not been studied to assess their knowledge and attitude to CAM, and general medicine or CAM use.…”

“…The use of CAM seems to be associated with visits to a physician and the use of conventional medicine [3,6,16]. Furthermore, smoking has been found to decrease the use of CAM [6].…”
