Cross-reactivity of anti-Eimeria tenella antibody fragments on merozoites and sporozoites of different chicken Eimeria species

Abstract: Eimeria tenella-specific antibodies were examined for the cross-reactivity on the sporozoites and merozoites of E. tenella, Eimeria maxima, Eimeria acervulina and Eimeria brunetti in an indirect fluorescence antibody test. Two of nine antibodies showed cross-reactivity with sporozoites of E. maxima, E. acervulina and E. brunetti; however, the localization of specific fluorescence differed between species. No antibody binding was observed on merozoites. The suitability of these antibodies to alter the infectivi… Show more

“…The second-generation merozoites were collected and purified according to the methods reported previously (Khalafalla et al, 2011;Liu et al, 2009). Total RNA was extracted from the second-generation merozoites of E. tenella by the single step protocol previously described (Sambrook et al, 2002).…”

“…Firstly, sporozoites of E. tenella were collected and soluble proteins were prepared as described previously (Khalafalla et al, 2011;Liu et al, 2009). Rats were vaccinated subcutaneously on the back with 100 μg proteins emulsified in Freund's Adjuvant Complete (Sigma) at 30 days of age, 14 days later, the second dose was given with Freund's Adjuvant Incomplete (Sigma).…”

“…Coccidiosis is an enteric parasitic disease caused by multiple protozoan parasite species of the genus Eimeria and is one of the most common and expensive diseases in the poultry industry (Mehlhorn 2008;Khalafalla et al 2011). It has a major economic impact on both growers and the poultry industry worldwide Metwaly et al 2012).…”

“…Coccidiosis is a common infectious disease in poultry, causing major economic losses (Dkhil et al 2011a;Khalafalla et al 2011). The protozoan parasite of the genus Eimeria multiplies in the intestinal tract of poultry and produces tissue damage, resulting in reduced growth and increased susceptibility to pathogens (McDougald 2003;Metwaly et al 2011).…”
