Cross‐sectional study on socio‐demographic and clinical correlates of depression among human immunodeficiency virus‐positive patients inSurat City,WesternIndia

Abstract: HIV-positive patients can be screened by counselors using easy-to-administer scales like BDI, which can be translated and validated into any regional language. A trained psychiatrist should be appointed at the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) center to take care of the mental health issues of the patients.

“…Beck Depression Inventory‐II (BDI‐II) and Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) version 2017 questionnaire was used for the data collection (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). The Gujarati (local language) version of BDI‐II (Beck et al, 1996), validated by researchers from Surat city (western India; Rupani et al, 2015) was used to assess depression; the YRBSS questionnaire was also translated into the local language.
