Crown ether-based structures for sensitive electrochemical detection

Abstract: N-(2-Hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide-co-N-acryloxysuccinimide with 2-aminomethyl-18-crown-6 (p(HPMA-NAS-18C6)) graft copolymer deposited on the gold (Au) electrode is able to bind heavy metal cations from aqueous solutions. The binding of the lead(II) cations (Pb 2þ ) is monitored by quartz crystal microbalance, cyclic voltammetry, and anodic stripping voltammetry. Electrochemical studies have demonstrated that the presence of p(HPMA-NAS-18C8) on the Au electrode surface resulted in the shift of Pb oxidation wave… Show more

“…For modification, e.g. clays quaternary ammonium salts are the most frequently used compounds, but n-alkyl-pyrrolidones, maleic anhydride, biomolecules, polymeric quaternary alkylammonium, alkyl-imidazolium and phosphonium salts have also been used for this purpose [2][3][4][5][6]. The areas of application of modified clays are wide including nanocomposites, adsorbents of organic and inorganic pollutants in soil, water, air, etc.…”

“…4-carboxybenzo-15-crown-5 graphite-epoxy composite electrodes had linear range concentration of 10.9-186.5 µg/L and LoD at 3.3 (10). The voltammetric response of N-(2hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide-co-Nacryloxysuccinimide with 2-aminomethyl-18-crown-6 (p(HPMA-NAS18C6))-modified electrode had linear response in the interval of 0.01-4.39 mg/L Pb(II), and LoD: 0.17 µg/L (13). Screen-printed carbon paste modified with siloxane-crown ether polyamide was used for Pb measurement and had linear concentration range from 50-2760 µg/L and LoD at 30 µg/L (14).…”
