Crude bio-glycerol aqueous phase reforming and hydrogenolysis over commercial SiO2Al2O3 nickel catalyst

Abstract: a b s t r a c tIn the present work, an one-pot Aqueous Phase Reforming (APR) and Aqueous Phase Hydrogenolysis (APH) of crude glycerol in a batch reactor containing commercial SiO 2 eAl 2 O 3 supported 65%Ni catalyst is performed. The effect of: i) the glycerol's impurities, ii) the operating temperature (200e240 C) and iii) the crude glycerol concentration (10e40 wt%) is investigated. The main gaseous products are H 2 , CH 4 and CO 2 , while the main liquid products are propylene glycol (PG), ethylene glycol (E… Show more

“…Furthermore, the product distribution can be tuned by using different conditions and catalysts, obtaining in some way a hydrogen-enriched gaseous mixture (low CO, CO 2 , and other light compound content). However, only a few of the studies mentioned in this work used crude glycerol as the starting feed [34,50,85,86]. In a perspective of industrial applications and integration with biorefineries, greater effort in this direction is essential in order to strongly limit the cost of the raw material and make the overall process economically feasible.…”
