“…Use of 18 O 2 resulted in incorporation of the 18 O label into the phosphine oxide, confirming the reaction proceeds via reaction with dioxygen rather than by a hydrolysis mechanism [299,300]. However, tertiary arsines are not oxidised under similar conditions, reflecting the much reduced stability of As(V) versus P(V), a notable illustration of which is the crystallographic identification of [SnBr 4 {Ph 2 As(CH 2 ) 2 P(O)Ph 2 }] formed by adventitious oxidation of Ph 2 As(CH 2 ) 2 PPh 2 [288].…”

“…The similar Sn-P bond distances in the neutral, monocationic and dicationic complexes are surprising in light of the reported Sn-P distances, which vary widely as a function of charge and geometry [2.5-3.5 A ˚]. [1][2][3][15][16][17][18][19][20] In contrast, the Sn-Cl distances in the monocationic salt [SnCl 3 (PMe 3 ) 2 ][AlCl 4 ], are significantly shorter than those in SnCl 4 (PMe 3 ) 2 , indicating that the charge is accommodated by the SnCl 3 moiety. The Sn-Cl distances in the dicationic salt [SnCl 2 (PMe 3 ) 2 ][AlCl 4 ] 2 are further contracted but by a smaller amount due to the trans influence imposed by SnÁ Á ÁCl interion contacts, which are well within the sum of the SnÁ Á ÁCl van der Waals radii (3.92 A ˚).…”

“…Infrared spectra were recorded as Nujol mulls between CsI plates using a PerkinElmer Spectrum 100 spectrometer over the range 4000-200 cm −1 . 1 H, 13 C{ 1 H}, 19 F{ 1 H}, 31 P{ 1 H}, 27 Al and 119 Sn NMR spectra were recorded from CDCl 3 or CH 2 Cl 2 / CD 2 Cl 2 solutions using a Bruker AV400 spectrometer and referenced to TMS via the residual solvent resonance, CFCl 3 , 85% H 3 PO 4 , [Al(H 2 O) 6 ] 3+ in H 2 O at pH = 1 or SnMe 4 as appropriate.…”
