Crystal-Field Analysis of the Ce3+ Spectrum in YAlO3 Single Crystals

Abstract: Infrared and ultraviolet absorption spectra arising from f ! f and f ! d transitions of Ce 3+ in YAlO 3 crystals are studied by Weber and used to derive the 4f and 5d energy levels. Excitation and fluorescence spectra of 5d ! 4f emission are also studied by Weber. From these spectra, the energy-level values for the 5d and 2 F 7/2 multiplets are deduced, whereas the positions of the energy levels for the 2 F 5/2 multiplet given by Weber are uncertain. A detailed crystal-field analysis of electronic energy level… Show more

“…The former case occurs for Dy 3+ :-GAP nanophosphors, and this can be explained according to the crystal structure of GdAlO 3 . The Pbnm symmetry model of GdAlO 3 contains two cationic sites: (i) AlO 6 octahedra site with inversion center, and (ii) GdO 12 polyhedra site without inversion center with Cs point symmetry [17,18]. The spectral property of the Dy 3+ confirms that the Dy 3+ ions occupy the polyhedra of Gd 3+ sites in the GdAlO 3 host lattice.…”
