“…Li-containing fluorides are under study to provide new scintillation materials for neutron detection due to the high cross-section of 6 Li for neutron capture. LiBaF 3 :Ce has been reported as a particularly interesting material in this respect due to the possibility to exclude the background gamma radiation using the double discrimination detection system [1,2].…”

“…It is the aim of this RRN to present results reporting on scintillation decay, photo-and thermoluminescence characteristics of LiCaAlF 6 : Ce 3+ single crystals. Some LiCaAlF 6 : Ce 3+ ion spectroscopical features were published [3] and lasing characteristics in the UV were reported [4,5].…”

“…It was noted in [28] that surface of the crystal shoulder was coated with some particles of LiF and AlF 3 , however, interior part of the crystal was transparent. Vaporization of LiF and AlF 3 from the surface of the melt was also noticed in [26].…”

“…Initially the Ce-doped lithium-calcium-aluminum uorite (LiCAF) with colquirite-type structure was considered as excellent material for UV solid-state lasers [26].…”

“…The output energy of laser fabricated with the Ce:LiCAF single crystal depends on its size, and therefore growing large high-quality single crystal is vital. The present numerical study is motivated initially by exploring the optimal growth condition of 2-inch (5.08 cm) LiCAF crystal after a initial success on the 1-inch crystal growth experimentally, 1) and up to now, 2-, 3-, and finial 4-inch LiCAF single crystals have also been grown. 2,3) Due to the complex growth conditions in CZ and combined interaction of buoyancy, forced convection and capillary flow, it is very expensive and time-consuming to explore optimal crystal condition experimentally.…”
