“…As demonstrated in Figure , the typical molar concentrations of NH 4 + are much greater than the molar concentrations of Mg 2+ and PO 4 3– . Although there is no consensus on the optimum molar ratio of Mg 2+ /NH 4 + /PO 4 3– to maximize struvite recovery from leachate, 1–1.3:1.0:1.0 was found to be the most effective for struvite recovery. This optimum ratio can be exclusive of different leachates based on the organics and interfering compounds (e.g., Na + , Ca 2+ , Al 3+ ). , Because magnesium and phosphate are found in lower concentrations in leachate than ammonium (median concentration of Mg 2+ /NH 4 + /PO 4 3– = 6.03/78.86/0.23 mM) (Figure ), magnesium and phosphate salts need to be added to precipitate struvite and effectively recover ammonia. In our critical analysis, we have identified a treatment cost of $0.17–1.98 per kg of struvite recovered from landfill leachate (Table ).…”

“…According to the results of this research, 1.13 kg of struvite (95% purity) was prepared per ton of WAS. Considering that the selling price of struvite is 420 $/ton [45], the income obtained by selling struvite is 0.45 $/ton of WAS, which adequately covers the cost of struvite precipitation (0.14 $/ton). When it comes to the biochemical treatment with design of MLSS (mixed liquor suspended solids) of 3000 mg/L, 13.33 tons of wastewater produces 1 ton of WAS (moisture content 96%) and the cost of WAS treatment is 0.96 $/ton wastewater.…”
