Crystal structure of bis[2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-κ2N2,N3]bis(thiocyanato-κS)copper(II)

Abstract: The structure of the title compound is similar to that of the related complexes [Co(C12H8N4S)2(N3)2] and [Ni(C12H8N4S)2(N3)2] in which the azide ion is substituted by the thiocyanate group. The CuN4S2 octahedron is more distorted than the CoN6 and NiN6 octahedra.

“…The latter revealed an antiferromagnetic character. ii ) With the same ligand (2‐PTH) and the thiocyanate ion as coligand, two complexes of formula [Fe(NCS) 2 (2‐PTH) and [Cu(SCN) 2 (2‐PTH) 2 ] are obtained with the pseudohalide bonded, via the sulfur atom in the case of copper(II) but via the nitrogen atom in the case of iron (II). These complexes showed intermolecular π – π interactions between pyridine rings and intermolecular C–H⋯N bonds.…”

“…Verticillium dahliae [29]. With the thiocyanate NCS -, a monometallic complex was obtained in which the coligand is linked via the sulfur atom [30]. But our choice was focused on thiocyanate as coligand because it's an ambidentate ligand, very flexible that can coordinate either through the sulfur atom S [31,32], either by the nitrogen atom N [33,34], or both at the same time and thus lead to polymetallic or polymeric complexes (Fig.…”

“…On the other hand, the chemistry of mixed-valence Cu II /Cu I coordination complexes are gaining popularity due to its great applications in various fields like as biological activity [41,42], electronic properties [43,44] and electrical conductivity [45,46]. Although, a first attempt in this context, only a monometallic complex of formula [CuL2(SCN)2] was isolated [30], we present here the synthesis and characterization of the first mixed-valence coordination polymer, [Cu I 3Cu II L2(SCN)5]n, based on L as ligand and thiocyanate as coligand, after a small modification of the preparation method. Its biological activity was also accessed against some fungal and bacterial phytopathogens.…”

“…For example, in phytopathology, we have shown that this efficiency varies according to the following sequence: NiL 2 (N 3 ) 2 > Ni 2 L 2 (H 2 O) 4 Cl 4 3H 2 O > L [23,24]. Recently, we have reported the synthesis of mono and binuclear compounds of transition metals (M = Cu, Ni and Co) with pseudo halide anions (N 3 and SCN -) as co-ligands [23][24][25][26][27][28]. The magnetic study of  2 -1,1-azido double-bridged [Cu 2 L 2 (-N 3 ) 2 (N 3 ) 2 ] complex revealed that the latter is weakly antiferromagnetic [27].…”
