Crystal structure of bis(azido-κN)bis[2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-κ2N2,N3]cobalt(II)

Abstract: The structure of the title compound is isotypic with that of the analogous nickel(II) complex, in which the CoN6 core shows an axially weakly compressed octahedral geometry as opposed to the almost regular geometry exhibited by the NiN6 octahedron.

“…However, in the crystal structure of complex 1 , the bpox ligand adopts a trans conformation, and forms hydrogen bonds with the water molecule localized in the intermolecular space, as is shown in Figure . The last behaviour is in good agreement with the previously described findings in the case of the 2,5‐bis(pyridin‐2‐yl)‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole (2‐PTH) / cobalt complexes without thiocyanate ions and in the case of 2,5‐bis(pyridin‐3‐yl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole / cobalt complex with thiocyanate ion as coligand …”

“…In our previous papers, we have reported the synthesis of new coordination complexes derived from 2,5‐bis(pyridin‐2‐yl)‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole (2‐PTH), mono and bimetallic complexes . More recently, with the pseudohalide ions and the organic ligand, complex isotopic mononuclears M(X) 2 (2‐PTH) 2 (M=Co; Ni; Cu and X=N3- ; SCN − ) were obtained and which one can summarize the particularities as well: i ) octahedral monometallic complexes are obtained, with 2‐PTH acting as bidendate ligand in equatorial positions and pseudohalide azide as monodendate ions in trans‐axial positions . However, the azide ion with copper, acts as bridging ligand and gives an asymmetric μ 2 ‐1,1‐azido double bridged copper (II) complex .…”

“…Therefore, the CoN 6 octahedra are slightly axially compressed. This structural feature is typical for related compounds [17,26,[40][41][42], and isostructural to iron complex FeL 2 (NCS) 2 described by Klingele el al. [43].…”
