Crystal structure, spectroscopic and magnetic properties, and antimicrobial activities of cobalt(II) 2-methylthionicotinate complexes with N-heterocyclic ligands

Abstract: Synthesis and characterization of 10 new 2-methylthionicotinate (2-MeSnic) Co(II) complexes, namely, reported. The characterizations were based on physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. The crystal structure of one of the complexes has been determined. In the molecular complex [Co(2-MeSnic) 2 (Me 2 fpy) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ], the Co(II) central atom, located at a symmetry centre, is octahedrally coordinated by an oxygen atom of the unidentate 2-MeSnic carboxyl group, the nitrogen atom of the pyridine ring of Me 2… Show more

“…Synthesis, spectroscopic and magnetic properties, and crystal structures of some copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes with furopyridine and its derivatives as ligands have been reported in previous articles [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. The furopyridines in all structures of the complexes are monodentate nitrogen donor ligands.…”

“…The chelating mode to metal centre can be revealed by D = v as (COO À ) À v s (COO À ). [26][27][28] The D values of both compounds are above 200 cm À1 and indicate a monodentate bonding mode (each oxygen atom to another Mn atom) (Table 3).…”

“…Advantages of the solid-solid synthesis method are much higher yield, being inexpensive, faster reaction rate, easier operating, energy saving, and environmental friendly [18], and it is in accordance with the requirements of green chemistry. Cobalt is an essential trace element for human and all animals, and its complexes have been used in the fields of medicine, bioinorganic chemistry, functional materials, and so forth [1924]. At the same time, the cobalt compounds are often used in chemical reactions as oxidation catalysts, such as typical catalysts that are the cobalt carboxylates, which are also used in paints, varnishes, and pigments industry [25].…”
