Crystalline structure and packing of mannan I

Abstract: SynopsisThe x-ray fiber diffraction pattern of the mannan I polymorph has been reexamined using the linked atom least squares (LALS) model-building program. The chain conformation and packing were refined using atomic coordinates derived from the x-ray crystallographic structure of mannotrime. The study confirmed the conclusions of previous investigations and showed that, in mannan I, the chains are antiparallel. Mannan polymorphism is compared with other related polysaccharides and the biological significance… Show more

“…The 100% crystalline mannan diffraction pattern was calculated using the known crystal structure and atomic coordinates of mannan I (Atkins et al 1988) and the 0% crystalline pattern (i.e., amorphous or non-crystalline background) was measured from a pure mannan powder sample. In the fitting procedure, the diffraction peaks of crystalline mannan were varied.…”

“…amorphous, or non-crystalline, background) was measured from the pure rye arabinoxylan film . The diffraction pattern of crystalline GGM was computed on the basis of the known crystal structure of mannan I (Atkins et al 1988). The non-crystalline background was measured from the filtrated and lyophilized GGM powder.…”
