Solution grown KCl:Pb single crystals are cleft in vacuum and decorated with gold. The surface distribution of decorating crystallites observed on carbon replicas by electron microscope qualitatively reflects the distribution of impurities in the crystals. From dopant concentrations of about 0.15 mol% Pb onwards local accumulations of the decorating crystallites on the crystal faces and changes in their epitaxial behaviour as well as traces of spherical precipitates are found. These phenomena are described and discussed.
