CT and MRI Features of Pediatric-Aged Colloid Cysts: Report of Two Cases

Abstract: A 10-year-old boy with the history of headache, anorexia, and vomiting was referred to our department to undergo a brain CT scan. CT images demonstrated a well-defined, rounded, hyperdense lesion at the level of the foramen of Monro causing moderate dilatation of the lateral ventricles. An 11-year-old girl with a long history of a headache was also referred to undergoing a brain MRI. MR images demonstrated a well-defined round abnormal signal intensity lesion at the level of the foramen of Monro causing modera… Show more

“…In colloid cysts diagnosis both, MRI and CT, are useful. 11 After excluding physiologic and traumatic causes of anisocoria, other possible causes should be evaluated. Horner's syndrome, glaucoma, pharmacological agents, migraine, 2 Adie's pupil, eye trauma, eye surgery, 3 oculomotor nerve palsy, carotid artery aneurysm, trauma, brain tumors and lesions 4 are the most common pathologic causes of anisocoria.…”

Note that 7 cases (7.5%) were diagnosed incidentally in this earlier study (compared to the 20% incidental findings in our study).…”

“…They usually present with hydrocephalus but may also present incidentally. 6,[19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26] A few case reports describing deaths related to CCs have been published, even during childhood. [27][28][29][30][31][32][33] Thus, awareness about this rare pathology by the treating teams should be increased.…”
