CTC, ctDNA, and Exosome in Thyroid Cancers: A Review

Wenwen Wang,
Zhiyao Zheng,
Jianyong Lei

Abstract: Thyroid cancer has become more common in recent years all around the world. Many issues still need to be urgently addressed in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of thyroid cancer. Liquid biopsy (mainly circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumor cells (CTCs), and circulating exosomes) may provide a novel and ideal approach to solve these issues, allows us to assess the features of diseases more comprehensively, and has a function in a variety of malignancies. Recently, liquid biopsy has been shown t… Show more

“…The heterogeneity of exosomes poses both methodological hurdles and promising potential for diagnostics and therapeutic procedures 120–123 . Numerous studies have provided compelling evidence indicating that malignant brain cancer cells exhibit a notable increase in the release of exosomes into the extracellular environment, which can be attributed, at least in part, to metabolic reprogramming and lactate production.…”

“…Among these biomarkers, CTCs, cell-free DNA (cfDNA), and RNA provide a dynamic glimpse into the tumor's genetic landscape. This revolutionary approach offers promising avenues for early cancer detection, monitoring disease progression, and tailoring personalized treatment strategies [3].…”
