Cu(ii)-grafted SBA-15 functionalized S-methylisothiourea aminated epibromohydrin (SBA-15/E-SMTU-CuII): a novel and efficient heterogeneous mesoporous catalyst

Abstract: The catalytic activity of novel synthesized SBA-15/E-SMTU-CuII nanocatalyst was investigated for the green, one-pot, pseudo five-component synthesis of tetrahydropyridine derivatives.

“…One-pot multicomponent approach fulfils these requirements. [25,26] Literature survey reveals that variety of catalysts have been used to synthesize functionalized piperidines using one-pot multicomponent approach; some of them are listed as: Graphene Oxide, [27] Calix[n]arenes, [28] MgFe 2 O 4 / Cellulose/SO 3 H nanocomposite, [29] Tartaric acid, [24] α-Fe 2 O 3 immobilized benzimidazolium tribromide, [30] Cu(II) grafted SBA-15 functionalized S-Methylisothiourea aminated epibromohydrin, [31] Cyanuric Chloride, [32] Camphor-10-sulfonic acid [33] and so on.…”

“…To obtain such materials the silica must be functionalized in such a way that sufficient donor sites are available for the metal cation to bind on its surface, and it can be used as an efficient catalyst. There are several reports where copper(II) has been anchored on to porous silica materials . Recently, we have reported a series of mesoporous catalysts and their applications in catalytic processes .…”

“…There are several reports where copper(II) has been anchored on to porous silica materials. [29,30] Recently, we have reported a series of mesoporous catalysts and their applications in catalytic processes. [31][32][33] Herein we have developed a synthesis for mesoporous materials containing 1,2-bidentate carboxyl groups, grafted with Cu(II) at their surface and investigated their catalytic properties in the Biginelli reaction of several aldehydes with urea and alkyl acetoacetates under solvent-free conditions (Scheme 1).…”

“…Moreover, four new bands visualized at 1649, 1551, 1404 and 619 cm −1 can be respectively assigned to the N−H, C=NH, C−N and C−S bonds upon amination of FMMWCNTs@CPA( II ) with S ‐methylisothiourea (Figure d). Immobilization of Pd II can be confirmed from Figure e which shows lower absorption bands at 1649, 1551, 1404 and 619 cm −1 due to the bending and stretching vibrations of N−H, C=NH, C−N, C−S functional groups compared to the corresponding non‐coordinated bonds (Figure e) …”
