Cubic-quintic condensate solitons in four-wave mixing

Abstract: We experimentally investigate the two-dimensional condensate (optical dropletlike) soliton formation and dynamics of the generated signal and probe beams in four-wave mixing (FWM) process with atomic coherence, under competition between the third-and fifth-order nonlinear susceptibilities. With such competing nonlinearities, mutual transformations among dropletlike fundamental, dipole, and azimuthally modulated vortex FWM solitons are observed. The influence of nonlinear competition on the photonic band gap is… Show more

“…When the coupling beam intensities are high enough, the third‐ and fifth‐order nonlinear susceptibilities (χp(3)|E2|2 and χp(5)|E2|4) come into play and should be taken into account . “…Since the energy level is dressed to be periodic, the susceptibility will also have the same periodicity, which can be written as χp(x,0.16emy)=χp(1)+χp(3)|E2|2+χp(5)|E2|4,when only the first three (linear and nonlinear) susceptibilities are considered. In Eq.…”

“…Our special interest in this section is the stable propagation of 2 1D SBSs in MDNCs exhibiting HON. Therefore the experiment described below was inspired by recent experiments: (i) the observation of robust 2 1D SBS propagation in liquid CS 2 due to the simultaneous contributions of focusing cubic and defocusing quintic nonlinearities [168]; and (ii) four-wave mixing experiments, based on the competition of cubic and quintic nonlinearities, performed to demonstrate the stabilization, for long distances, of 2 1D SBS in a rarefied gas [169] and in a nonresonant Kerr glass [170]. Notice that SBS could not propagate in the silver nanocolloids exhibiting cubic-quintic nonlinearities because the NL response would be dominated by the defocusing cubic nonlinearity.…”

“…At this stage it may be worth mentioning that recently Wu et al [38] have experimentally investigated the multiparameter controllable four-wave mixing (FWM) optical droplet like twodimensional condensate solitons under competition between the third and fifth order susceptibilities enhanced by EIT in a multilevel atomic media. Mutual transformations among droplet like fundamental, dipole and azimuthally modulated vortex FWM solitons have been observed under low power.…”
