Cubic spline interpolation for petroleum engineering data

Abstract: Interpolation and fitting the data to produce the interpolating curves or fitting curves are important in Oil and Gas (O&G) industry. Data interpolation is useful for scientific visualization for data interpretation. One of the efficient methods for data interpolation is cubic spline function. In this paper two types of cubic spline will be used for data interpolation. The first one is cubic spline interpolation with 2 C continuity. Meanwhile the second spline is Piecewise Cubic Hermite Spline (PCHIP) with 1 C… Show more

“…All data cleaning, including start and end time adjustment and individual point cleaning, is noted in Appendix B in Rainville et al (2022), and the cleaning notes are stored in the metadata of each netCDF and in the GitHub repository that contains all processing code (https://github.com/SASlabgroup/DUNEXMainExp). The IMU data is then despiked using a piecewise cubic Hermite interpolating polynomial (PCHIP) function, a shape-preserving interpolation scheme used to reduce overshoot oscillations and maintain continuity (Karim et al, 2014). Points with a value greater than four scaled median absolute deviations from the median are considered outliers and replaced using the PCHIP method.…”

“…Moreover, research community is interested in splines method to solve different types of differential equations in wide scale. Some examples of such approach are given in [49][50][51][52][53][54][55]. Recently, the spline method has been considered by the researchers as an ideal numerical method for solving many problems.…”
