“…In line with our hypotheses and with results of past studies, cumulative childhood trauma was associated with higher levels of emotional dysregulation, dissociation, and behavior problems (Briere, 2006;Choi and Oh, 2014;Hodges et al, 2015;Horan and Widom, 2015). Furthermore, descriptive analyses revealed CSA rarely occurs alone.…”

“…Our results are in line with those of Choi and Oh (2014), but they also further our understanding of the associations between cumulative childhood trauma and behavior problems by including dissociation symptoms into the models tested. While the association between dissociation and behavior problems was less documented than the link with emotion regulation, our results converge with those of Hagan et al (2015), Kisiel andLyons (2001), andRoss-Gower et al (1998), showing that this is a relevant variable to explore when aiming to understand the mechanisms linking cumulative childhood trauma and behavior problems in childhood.…”

“…Recent studies have examined the mediating role of emotion regulation in a sample of polyvictimized children. These studies found that emotion regulation mediated the relationship between cumulative trauma and dissociation (Hébert, Langevin, & Oussaïd, ), or behavior problems (Choi & Oh, ). In sum, emotion regulation may represent a key mechanism linking child maltreatment to negative outcomes.…”
