Introduction:Delayed wound healing is a chronic complication in diabetic patients than in healthy individuals. Pomelo belongs to the genus Citrus of the family Rutaceae, an important fruit with great benefits for humans in the world. Previous studies showed that pomelo peels contain an abundant bioactive compound, which may promote wound healing in experimental animals. Aim: The current study was carried to prepare optimized extraction of pomelo peels using different experimental conditions and investigate the possible healing effect of oral treatment with pomelo peel extract (PPE) on induced excision skin wound in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: This study was done on rats divided into five groups each of 8 rats (two treatment groups given PPE (400 and 600) mg/kg by oral gavage compared to two control groups and standard plant for wound healing). Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of a single dose of Streptozotocin (STZ) 65 mg\kg body weight. After diabetes induction, full thickness excision wound was made in rats, and the study continued for 3 weeks. Results: This study showed significant reduction in blood glucose and both percentage and time to wound closure in the treated groups, also a significant increase in hydroxyproline and total protein content of the healed wound tissue in the treated groups compared with control groups and comparable to standard plant extract treated groups. Conclusion: Experimental data proposed that oral administration of pomelo peel extract rich in vitamins and flavonoids has a good therapeutic potential in the treatment of complicated wounds in diabetes.

Background: Dermal infections by Staphylococcus epidermidis can cause problems for patients. Antibiotic resistance have been reported to treat the bacteria, therefore need to develop new drugs, among others sourced from herbs. For this purpose, study is needed to find an efficacy of Lantana camara Linn. leaf extract ointment on dermal wound healing were infected with S. epidermidis.Methods: Wistar rats divided into 4 groups randomly. Group I=dermal wounded, infected with S. epidermidis, untreated. Group II=dermal wounded, infected with S. epidermidis, treated with L. camara Linn. leaf extract ointment 5%. Group III=dermal wounded, infected with S. epidermidis, treated with L. camara Linn. leaf extract ointment 10%. Group IV=dermal wounded, infected with S. epidermidis, treated with sodium fusidate 2%. Bacterial colonies number observed on 6 days, while the quality of wound healing, measurement of DNA and protein levels on 6, 14 and 18 days. Mean ± SD between groups were analyzed by ANOVA.Results: Wound healing in group II qualitatively better than group I, III and IV. Bacterial colonies number in group II was lower than groups I, III and IV (p<0.05), whereas DNA and protein levels was higher in group II compare to groups I, III and IV (p<0.05). On 6, 14 and 18 days observations there are trend similarly ie DNA levels decreased, conversely protein levels increased.Conclusions: L. camara Linn. leaf extract ointment 5% more effective than 10% on dermal wound healing.

Skin is the largest human organ and displays multiple functions involving structure and protection against external agents that may affect the body. Solar radiation accelerates the normal aging process and may even cause great damage leading to many different cutaneous diseases and skin cancer. Moreover, a wound in the skin may be an open channel for the access of pathogens usually exposing blood vessels for infections and causing serious complications. For many reasons, regulatory skin processes are of great deal in different approaches: basic antiaging, wound healing, and skin cancer. In a good way, photoprocesses with specific wavelength at low energy levels associated with photoactive compounds are known to cause the opposite effect, promoting the healing of cutaneous diseases and leading to well-defined outcomes in rejuvenation and antiaging. This chapter will discuss the most relevant topics in photo skin regeneration using low energy levels associated with photodynamic therapy (PDT), which emerged as a combination to potentialize molecules with the already known effects of PDT and low level laser therapy (LLLT) in the treatment of skin pathologies, known as a photobiomodulation process.
