Current issues in recrystallization: a review

Abstract: The current understanding of the fundamentals of recrystallization is summarized. This includes understanding the as-deformed state. Several aspects of recrystallization are described: nucleation and growth, the development of misorientation during deformation, continuous, dynamic, and geometric dynamic recrystallization, particle effects, and texture. This article is authored by the leading experts in these areas. The subjects are discussed individually and recommendations for further study are listed in the … Show more

“…The latter may occur during cooling after completion of deformation or between successive stages of deformation during FSW/P. Dynamic recovery (DRV) occurs readily during hot working of metals of high stacking fault energy such as aluminum [3,5,21]. The flow stress rises during the initial stage of deformation as dislocations multiply and interact.…”

“…The onset of geometric dynamic recrystallization (GDRX) may be observed as the strain increases during DRV when the separation of prior boundaries approaches the subgrain size [3,5,22]. The boundary separation in the normal direction, d N , during hot or warm rolling may be taken as d N ffi d 0 exp(Àe), where d 0 is the initial grain size and e is the strain.…”

“…It is well established that second phase particles in a metallic material have a strong influence on the recrystallization behaviour [1][2][3][4][5]. Fine dispersoids exert a pinning effect on both high and low angle boundaries [6,7], where a broader size distribution of fine dispersoids leads to a larger effective Zener drag pressure [8].…”

“…The role of the carbide particles, Crcarbides in particular, should be taken into account too. During intercritical annealing, a complex interaction between recrystallization, grain growth, and phase transformation occurs 9,10 . The degree of such interplay depends, first of all, on the chemical composition of the steel (e.g., microalloying additions) and processing parameters 8,11,12 .…”
