Current Sheet as an Optimal Synchrotron Maser on a Radio Pulsar
S. A. Koryagin
Abstract:Using a relativistic plasma with an isotropic monoenergetic distribution of electrons andpositrons as an example, we show that in the maser regime the maximum possible amplification ofsynchrotron radiation at a distance of one wavelength is achieved in a medium where the magnetic energydensity is of the order of the particle energy density. This ratio of the energy densities corresponds to a(Harris-type) current sheet. We have obtained an electron Lorentz factor of 350 and a magnetic fieldstrength of 10 kG in … Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
